I just got told off by Facebook. It made me feel like I had disobeyed my mother. Remember when you were very small and you took an extra biscuit or pushed your sibling over by mistake and your mum asked you to think about what you had done and how disappointed she was? Well that’s what it was like.
A few days ago I tried a spot of Facebook page promotion. I wrote a post and did as normal so it went onto the page wall, and a little button on the bottom right said PROMOTE. I clicked on it and went through all the checking boxes and yes questions and got charged £3.00 to reach x amount of people using Facebook generally.
It all went through, I got 3 new likes and then It came to an end. Today I tried to sign into a site using Facebook- which is better than typing your email address in etc, and an official message came up saying I had breached their user policy. I started to panic- had they shut my page down? What had I actually done? Then I clicked on NEXT and it showed me the post they didn’t like- scary. Little old Organic Books with 53 likes.
My post had basically offered a chance to win one of a number of free pages on my blog- in case you didn’t know I want to get 50 authors signed up and have a free page on here at the top where the other author’s names are. Apparently I wasn’t allowed to do that. Opps. I clicked NEXT again and it told me to click on a link to read the small print, which I did and then it followed on from that by asking me if I would like to disable the page to see if I had done anything else wrong- I don’t think I have so I clicked No. It then let me sign into my personal account.
Lesson learnt today- read the T&C’s. Social media can sometimes seem free and easy but there are companies controlling it- every inch of the way. Also, in order to make me feel better, do like the Organic books page here https://www.facebook.com/organicbooksblog : )
